Clarkes Landing at Sunrise

Just 2 miles from my house at the end of the road. Overlooking the Patuxent River at the confluence of Cuckold Creek, Nat's Creek, and Mill Creek. The sun is rising over the Governor Thomas Johnson Memorial Bridge, which crosses the Patuxent onto Solomon's Island in Calvert County.

LadyKate asked for a self-potrait, and while I am no schmoo or Alex, I'm completely uninhibited and willing to strut my stuff at a moment's notice. So I popped my head out of the blind for a brief SP, as requested :)

Blue Jay, Evening Bath

Does the BG look completely black, or are there splotches of green. My home and work monitors have different factory settings and contrast is radically different between them. Not sure which one is closer to true. If you see green splotches, that means my dailies have been lacking contrast 'cause I've been reducing it in post to match my home monitor.

Needed to close the aperture a bit, I think it would look better with more of the bark in the DOF plane.

Macro Titmouse

Been meaning to break out the extension tubes and give this a try. Not easy with smal, flitty birds! 100-400 zoom at 400mm w/ 36mm extension tube.

Goldfinch, darn things will never sit in the sun. I'm thinking about trying to rig a big reflective panel or two near the blind.

Some of the best sunsets in the Southern Maryland area are watched from the boardwalk at Solomon's Island. The VERY best sunsets are seen from the bridge while you are driving over it. Why do they never install scenic overlooks on bridges :)

I'll try to catch up with commenting over the long weekend, there are just so many of us now in the dailies :)

I'd scowl a little bit too if I had a passenger on my head. Not quite enough DOF on this shot, but its the only one with a decent view of the tick :)

Bath Time

Though darkness falls, the Son still shines through.

Fledgling Mourning Dove, very unsure about this 'flying thing' his Mom keeps urging him to try. She'd pretend to feed her two chicks and then fly over to the next branch to entice them fly over and get fed for real. The brave one, not this one, did that immediately.
